Working in the Natural Resource industry, I have done different types of production work in power plants across the United States. I have filmed training videos for power plants. I’ve shot rescue and safety videos in confined spaces with low-angle setups. I’ve produced virtual tours that are for employees’ families, shareholders, and staff. This post features some visuals I captured at a power plant in California, where the main job was to document the ceremony for a safety award the facility had received. These shots are from a tour that took place at the power plant.
I have been extremely blessed to work with the grape breeding company that painstakingly developed and marketed the Cotton Candy Grape that you have probably seen in your local markets. As a video creator working in agriculture industries like grape breeding and grape growing, I have to figure out how to make the grapes look pretty on video, whether on the vine or in their packaging. It’s been interesting to learn the technical aspects of the grape breeding process, what characteristics give this particular grape the “cotton candy” flavor, and some of the jargon involved.
Over the course of two years I have created videos on the technical nature of the grape, for instance what a grower would like to know about the varietal when growing and marketing the fruit. I also have created shorter retail-style videos, using punchy music and graphics to showcase the fun, sweet energy behind this very novel and popular grape. Finally, I have photographed the Cotton Candy grape on the vine, in growers’ fields, in its clamshell packaging, and in stores presented to the general public.
It has really been a pleasure to tell people about one of my favorite clients and then ask, “Have you ever tried the Cotton Candy grape?” Nine times out of ten, people reply back with, “Yes, I love the Cotton Candy grape!”
When working with clients in the Natural Resources industry, it’s always my goal to really capture the heart of the company in a human and personal way. I enjoy doing video production for industries like trucking, power plants, and agriculture because it is always fun to take a subject that may not necessarily be interesting to the general public and provide a unique behind-the-scenes look in a way that can be more accessible to anybody. I believe these types of videos give people an appreciation of the personal and human aspects of industries like these. I love using my videography to bridge the gap between these industries and the public. It is good for us to know how the world works so we don’t take everyday experiences—like putting gas in our cars—for granted.
Here is a preview of one of my favorite productions of 2017: a video I produced for a town home complex in my city.
The purpose of this breakdown is to show the steps involved in creating something of this quality on a very limited budget. My approach helped minimize cost for the client while still achieving a high-quality product.
